New crop on the prairie

Last night, beyond my tent site, 18 oil well gas flares burned bright. Steady drone of work from the H&P 456 drilling rig. Now, at 8:30 am, the oil rig drills on and trucks are rolling on County Road 2 – the Sand Creek road. There is crisp morning bird song in the tall grass. The flares are still out there, too, though washed out of view by strong sun.
